So-Saree Anniversary Guest Post_Pineapple-ish

Today is the last day of our So-Saree's Blogathon...Yippeeeee..!
I Did It !!!!
And for today's post I have a guest blogger whose style statement is so ornate and artistic that I am in awe every single time.
Shreeja of Pineapple-ish (gosh..don't you just love the name of her blog?) is a fashion blogger with an eye for detail. She's experimental, she's artistic, she's stylish and she's my friend. :)

Haven't I told you before???..I am just so lucky with Friends.

I haven't done a post on my blog since... I don't even remember... and I have been planning to start again since.... I don't even remember... all the deadlines I gave myself have long gone.... So when Aditi asked me to do a guest post I instantly said yes - 

1) A push that I really needed
2) It had to be in a Saree!!

Not sure how effective this push is but I surely loved playing around in this gorgeous Sari!

This is one of my favorite saris... well all my saris are actually very dear to me - I love Saris and I'm very picky about them... I have a very specific type when it comes to Saris or even in general - raw textures, hand-loom, earthy & warm color palette with a dash of dull gold always attracts me - it has to be dull gold!

So this shoot here is pretty much a mood-board of the textures, colors and the overall feel that I personally adore.

This off-white Kota was actually a plain border-less sari with self paan motif (btw lots of off-white and lots of Kota among my saris) which I think still looked divine! But ohhh the pressure of adding bling to any Indian outfit specially if you are attending a wedding - I was forced to put a border to the pristine beauty - too much drama actually happened back then :P

My search for a semi traditional border was over when I found this red, black and gold lace ( have a thing for traditional saris too) and also this combo was just introduced by Sabyasachi which then went on to become a rage later - so I was too excited to have found it . I still love this combination - off-white, red and black with a dash of gold - it's a classic!!

An outdoor green bright shoot wouldn't have done justice to the look - so there was a location right in my living room - earthy with textures, warm colors of the painting  and a warm evening light through the off-white blinds - just perfect! These images are actually without any filters applied.

Firstly let me congratulate you on your blog's first anniversary. Reading your blog has been quite a good source of entertainment. Keep up the good work girl!!
I love the varied topics that you cover in your blog right from fashion, food, tradition and of course SAREE.

I was never a saree fan per se. In fact draping a saree and carrying it off was a Big Deal for me :( I somehow thought the entire thing is a pain in the a**. I never bought a saree or even wanted to own one since mom had a huge collection of it. For all my college saree days or traditional day functions it had to be one from mom's wardrobe. But lately I look for occasions to wear one, thanks to my wedding where I flaunted a nine yard saree. I always wanted to look that typical Marathi bride wearing a nine yard saree and a Nath (nose ring). My dad always said "A girl looks her best in an Indian attire" and I completely agree to him now. I am proud owner of 8 sarees (Hahaha I have foot wears the double of it though).

Since you are the Saree queen, all So-Saree fans would love to see YOU (No face chopped off ) in your favorite saree soon !!

WOW..the final week of So-Saree is being really easy on me mainly because I have guest posts and readers posts lined up for the remaining days. :)
I am so glad I decided to do this blogathon, because this last month I have connected with so many of my readers in a way I could have only imagined. The response has been overwhelming and humbling as well.

Mandira..what should I say about her. She is a doctor, married to a doctor, a Yoga expert, an avid traveler and a fabulous fashionista. She personifies the Idiom, "Jack of All Trades, Master of More than One"
She is a Diva in the True Sense. I am impressed by her zest for life and penchant for traveling. This girl just doesn't know to stop.

I came across So-Saree through a comment on another blog and have been your ardent follower ever since!! I don’t have many blogger friends so Aditi you are very dear to me.  Though I have not met you ( which I would love to whenever you come to Delhi or me in Mumbai), I feel that I know you quite well!! Thanks for sharing anecdotes of your life with us!!

What I love most about your blog is not just sarees but many other things!! I am a big fan of your nail art and I think you are a pro at it!! Also I love the reference of your MIL whenever it comes to food. Lastly, green is my favourite color too!! :D

I have always loved sarees and I would consider my mother to be an ideal ‘saree horse’ !! Being a Bengali, she has an enormous collection of sarees which I dream of inheriting. So here are a few of my saree pics in which the sarees I am wearing have been gifted by my Mother in law!!

Indira Gandhi_Saree Inspiration

Hello people!!!
Today is So-Saree's 100th Post...and it makes me feel so proud today.
I wanted to do something special to celebrate this occasion, but my schedule doesn't permit it yet. But soon, pretty soon!
So for today's post I decided to pick up a personality who personifies strength and independence to the hilt.
A woman so intelligent and fiercely opionionated that she still inspires the woman of today.
Indira Gandhi, India's first and only Woman Prime Minister.
But somewhere, this strong image overshadowed an aspect of this Iron Lady...
that of a woman, a beautiful and stylish woman. An attribute that was somehow completely camouflaged by her political persona.
Today, So-Saree attempts to decode her style statement through pictures.

Wore this one for a baby-shower! The Saree is a pure-silk again with hand-stitched work all over! My MIL bought it for me for 2010 Durga pooja. From West Bengal, Price Rs. 4500. Jewelry: Costume pearl Jewelry!

This is a Samudrika Pattu! The most expensive one I have! It is from Pothys, Chennai. Hand-made pure silk $596. I bought it online, for my daughter Auripra’s 1^st birthday in 2012

This one is a kanchipuram silk. Another oldest one I have. My MIL gifted me for my engagement party, in 2005. Price Rs 3000

This is the newest one of all. Last year, I bought it when I was visiting India (Jan, 2013). It is a Black Jamdani from West Bengal. Can you imagine its price? Only Rs 2500. Isn’t it a steal?  I love this saree!

Last but not the least, one of my favorite sarees from the closet considering how affordable it is; yet very gorgeous! Can you believe it is Rs. 500 only? This is a Jute Kota from Bengal Hand-loom. Bought last year when I was in India.

So-Saree Readers Speak_Payal

Today's So-Saree Reader is my dearest childhood friend Payal. We went to the same playschool and high school too. Our mom's were friends too, and we had so much fun together.
But then bad things happened...
We grew up..! And got busy with our lives.
But then good things happened sometime later..
i.e. So-Saree happened..!;)

And I am glad all my friends are reading it and and enjoying it as much. So, to ease some burden off me from the month long blogathon, I asked my dear friend to do a guest post, and she did so well. I am so happy to have asked her. Go ahead and read what Payal has to say.

"A new, exciting post almost every alternate day! Isn't that a good enough reason to be an avid follower of So-Saree? First of all, let me start by congratulating Aditi and her blog on it's successful run of 1 year. I must admit I have an attention deficit disorder so it's kind of an uphill task for me to be following someone on a regular basis. But Aditi's blog got me hooked and how! It all started with the name. So-Saree sounded intriguing and so I had to see what it was all about.. Also, the fact that it was my childhood friend's blog made it all the more special. So, I decided to check it out at least for courtesy sake if nothing else. And thank god, I did! I think initially, it all started with some posts on sarees and then moved on to nail-art, personal heartfelt stories, experiences, new finds, celebrity news and hell lot of other interesting posts. (BTW I love, love your experiments with nail-art and every single time, if any nail-art online catches my fancy, it always reminds me of you.) 

I must admit that I was never really a huge saree person. Wore it only for the occasional weddings in the family or on some special days at work. But then last year, marriage happened and my life took a sudden turn! Now here I was, on my wedding day, going through the whole shaadi drill with 5 saree changes (and a lehenga to add to that) in a single day! It didn't seem too much of a hassle though because I had my personal stylist and my friends to help me deal with the ordeal. But this was only half the fun. More majja happened post marriage when I had to drape a saree for every other occasion right from a pooja to a visit to the temple or a relative's place or some festival. No one really forced me into it but looking at my wedding pictures and seeing how pretty and elegant (self-praise alert!) I looked in a saree, I made it a point to wear a saree at least for the special times. It made my husband also very happy *wink wink* I think it's got something to do with Indian men and their psyche. They absolutely love seeing their wives (I am hoping only their wives!) wrapped sexily in a saree. I never had a problem draping a saree back in India because I always had my mom or my sister or my sasuma or some aunty coming to my rescue always! 

The real fun began when I moved to California with my husband. With my whole life packed in two bags, here I was, in a completely different world, setting up a new house, settling in myself, making new friends and trying to make our house a home. Come November 2013 and it was time for our first Diwali and our first big pooja together. Diwali as a festival has a lot of prominence in Hindu households and especially if you are a newly wed couple. My sasuma sent us faraal, diwali decoration, lantern, rangoli and lots of love and blessings all the way from India. Now we had to live up to that and make it the best diwali of all times for both of us. And so for the pooja, I decided that I had to wear a saree! Yes, an actual 6 yards long piece of garment with no mom or aunty to help! After my marriage date was fixed, my mom(and my brother as well!) had shown me step-by-step how to wear a saree.*Yes, I have a crazy family and I love them to the hilt.* They had made me practice it as well a couple of times but I never really got the hang of it. It still brings a smile on my face when I think of Diwali day and how I googled various youtube videos and after several false tries, somehow managed to drape a saree (It did hold it's own I must add) without any help! Correction. My dearest husband did help me with the whole 'process' making it all the more enjoyable and fun.

I have definitely made some progress since then and was recently pleased as punch when I managed to drape a saree in my first attempt itself for Makar Sankranti. I won't say it came out perfect but then there's always a next time. I ain't stopping now :) Here's to lots more saree madness and hotness in the times to come! 

P.S. This being my first blog ever, I was wondering whether I will be able to do justice to you and your page. I was hoping that I would be able to scribble down a few lines and now here it is, almost two sides full! Whatever and however be it, I thoroughly enjoyed writing it and it was definitely an experience to cherish. Now, at least,  I have a hint of what it takes to be a successful blogger.
